Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah (born 29 October 1952) is a stalwart freedom fighter, seasoned politician and now, the first woman president of the republic of Namibia. She will be inaugurated on 21 March 2025.
Her Excellency Nandi-Ndaitwah has been engaged in politics from a young age. At 14 years old, she joined apartheid-fighting political party SWAPO. She soon became the leader of SWAPO’s Youth Movement organisation, fighting to end South Africa’s occupation. Nandi-Ndaitwah soon became a target for the opposition, forcing her to go into exile. While away, she completed school while continuing her anti-apartheid activities in southern Africa and east Africa. In 1989, Nandi-Ndaitwah obtained a master’s degree in diplomatic studies from Keele University.

In 1988, when Namibia gained independence, she returned home and joined the SWAPO-led government. She has held several positions in government, including:
- President of Namibian National Women’s Organisation (NANAWO) (1991-19994);
- Deputy Minister of International Relations and Cooperation (1990-1996);
- Director-general of Women’s Affairs in the Office of the President (1996-2000);
- Minister of Women Affairs and Child Welfare (2000-2005);
- Minister of Information and Broadcasting (2005-2010);
- Minister of Environment and Tourism (2010-2012);
- Minister International Relations and Cooperation (2012-2015); and
- Deputy Prime Minister of Namibia (2015-2024).
Following Geingob’s death in February 2024, Nandi-Ndaitwah served as the third Vice President of Namibia under President Nangolo Mbumba.

In December 2024, as SWAPO’s presidential candidate, she made history by being elected as Namibia’s first female president. She won 57% of the vote, with her closest rival, Panduleni Itula, getting 26%, according to the electoral commission.
Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah dedicated her life fighting against racism and sexism. We honour you today Madam President!
